ScanLink remote scan software is composed of three main components: ScanLink Server, ScanLink Host, and ScanLink Driver. The ScanLink server must always be installed on the hardware that will be acting as the server. ScanLink Host must be installed on each piece of hardware that has or will have a scanner attached to it. Finally, the ScanLink Driver must be installed on the hardware that will be storing the scanned images. Once these components are installed on the proper hardware, you will have centralized control over a scanner network.

To manage your newly formed scanner network, simply right-click on the VirtScan Server icon in your server’s system tray. It opens an interface where you can add or remove users, add scanners and assign them to users.  This gives you strict control over what remote users can do on your scanner network. ScanLink remote scan software even gives you control over specific scanner attributes like resolution, brightness and contrast and the ability to make these settings standard over your scanner network for remote users.

Remote users are ready to scan in three easy steps:

1)  Using Remote Desktop Connection (formerly terminal services), connect to the server
2)  Open up a scanning application
3)  When selecting a source, pick the virtual scanner device

The user is ready to scan! The scanning application simply sees ScanLink remote scan software as another driver and treats it as such. Now your whole company can enjoy the benefits of network scanning.

ScanLink can work in a Terminal Services or Citrix environment if need be.

ScanLink Glossary:

Imaging Device List –View in the ScanLink interface that displays all the imaging devices available and allows you to assign a remote user to an imaging device.

SMAware VirtualScan Device – The name given to the ScanLink Virtual driver when selecting a driver from the list of available drivers.

Users List –View in the ScanLink Server Interface that displays each user on the system and the scanner(s) assigned to them.

Viewer Console – dialog box that displays information related to the management of ScanLink.

ScanLink Server –Software component that communicates with all ScanLink Hosts and Virtual Drivers, displaying their status on the viewer console.

ScanLink Host –Software component that must be installed on the computer the scanner is attached to.

ScanLink Driver (client) – Integral software component that allows you to configure the server IP as well as choose a scanner on the network.

Virtual Driver – Causes the ScanLink client to act as a virtual driver that lets the user choose which scanner they would like to use. The system sees ScanLink as a regular TWAIN driver which will show on your driver list in the scanning application you are using.

ScanLink Software Benefits Include:

Added Security

ScanLink is configured by default to store images on a server rather than a local machine, offering you another layer of security.

Centralized Management

Manage all users and settings from your server. Tasks like adding a network scanner to a user profile, removing a user from the server, managing scanner parameters, locking down scanner features and more can all be managed from one server location. This gives the server administrator tighter control over the scanners on the network.

Scanner Virtualization

ScanLink's virtual scanner transfers all
the functionality of your scanner directly into your network scanning application session. Settings like color, document size, resolution, scan mode and more can be controlled remotely.
