Ambir Technology ranks No. 1,117 among the 2008
Inc. Magazine 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies;
 27th among the Top 100 Computer & Electronics Companies 

ELMHURST, IL, August 28, 2008 – Inc. magazine announced its annual rankings of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the country, ranking Ambir Technology 1,117, with Three-Year Sales Growth of 336%.

Ranking in the top 25% of all companies listed, Ambir Technology also ranked No. 27 in the Top 100 Computers & Electronics Companies nationwide and No. 48 in the Top 100 Businesses in Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.  Ambir’s 2008 rank represents a jump of 422 positions over the previous year’s listing.

According to Inc., this list is the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.  Taken as a whole, said Inc., these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.

The Inc. listing notes the company’s humble beginnings in founder Mike O’Leary’s home. Spurred by a recent job loss, O’Leary took the last of his savings and poured it into the fledgling company – now a multimillion dollar enterprise.  The company has since outgrown its space on a nearly annual basis, and currently resides in a 8,000 square foot facility in Elmhurst, IL.

Founder Mike O’Leary attributes the company’s growth to the increasing need for the electronic capture and storage of document and ID data.

“Organizations have an ongoing need to increase efficiencies and reduce costs, and implementing scanner technology is an easy and cost-effective way to make that happen,” said O’Leary. “Reducing photocopying, reducing the flow of physical paper, likewise reduces the costs of moving, storing and accessing files. It also increases data security and helps staff be more efficient and focus more on the customer.”

O’Leary also noted a growing trend in the desire to authenticate ID data along with its capture and storage.

“Ambir has expanded its product offering beyond scanners that capture the data and software that enables storage and data management,” he said. “We’re now offering products like VeriScan ID, which also will indicate whether information on an ID is valid.”

In a time of economic uncertainly, O’Leary commented that he is especially pleased to have been able to sustain his company’s growth and provide stability for his employees and reliability for Ambir’s customers.

Methodology

The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007.  To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007.
