Inc. Magazine Reveals America's 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies of 2009

Ambir Technology ranks No. 1,648 among the 2009 Inc. Magazine 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies; 15th among the Top 100 Computer Hardware Companies

ELMHURST, IL, August 21, 2009 – Inc. magazine announced its annual rankings of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the country, ranking Ambir Technology 1,648. This is the third year in a row Ambir has appeared on the list.

Ambir Technology ranked No. 15 in the Top 100 Computer Hardware Companies nationwide. This rank represents a jump of 12 positions over last year’s listing. Ambir also ranked No. 66 in the Top 100 Businesses in Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

According to Inc., this list is the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.

Founder Mike O’Leary attributes the company’s growth to the increasing need for the electronic capture and storage of document and ID data.

“Enterprises have a constant need to increase efficiency and reduce costs, and implementing scanner technology is an easy and cost-effective way to do that,” said O’Leary. “Reducing photocopying and the flow of physical paper reduces the costs of moving, storing and accessing files. It also increases data security and helps staff be more efficient and focus more on the customer.”

In a time of economic uncertainly, O’Leary commented that he is especially pleased to have been able to sustain his company’s growth and provide stability for his employees and reliability for Ambir’s customers.

The 2009 Inc. 5000 serves as a unique report card on the U.S. economy. Despite the ongoing recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually increased to $214 billion, up $29 billion from last year, with a median three-year growth rate of 126 percent. The Inc. 5000 are responsible for creating more than 1 million jobs since their founding, making the list perhaps the best example of the impact private, fast-growing companies can have on the economy. Methodology

The Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they have to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent -- not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies -- as of December 31, 2008. Revenue in 2005 must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in 2008 must have been at least $2 million. The top 10 percent of companies on the list comprise the Inc. 500, now in its 28th year.
