ScanLink remote scan software - How it works

ScanLink remote scan software is composed of three main components: VirtScan Server, VirtScan Host, and VirtScan Driver. The VirtScan server must always be installed on the hardware that will be acting as the server. VirtScan Host must be installed on each piece of hardware that has or will have a scanner attached to it. Finally, the VirtScan Driver must be installed on the hardware that will be storing the scanned images. Once these components are installed on the proper hardware, you will have centralized control over a scanner network.

To manage your newly formed scanner network, simply right-click on the VirtScan Server icon in your server’s system tray. It opens an interface where you can add or remove users, add scanners and assign them to users. This gives you strict control over what remote users can do on your scanner network. ScanLink remote scan software even gives you control over specific scanner attributes like resolution, brightness and contrast and the ability to make these settings standard over your scanner network for remote users.
Remote users are ready to scan in three easy steps:
ScanLink can work in a Terminal Services or Citrix environment if need be. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section of your Installation Guide if you experience specific Citrix or Terminal Services issues.

Hosts List – View in the ScanLink server interface that displays each host on the system. A host is any computer with VirtScan Host installed and a scanner attached to it.
Imaging Device List – View in the ScanLink interface that displays all the imaging devices available and allows you to assign a remote user to an imaging device.
SMAware VirtualScan Device – The name given to the ScanLink Virtual driver when selecting a driver from the list of available drivers.
Users List – View in the ScanLink Server Interface that displays each user on the system and the scanner(s) assigned to them.
Viewer Console – dialog box that displays information related to the management of ScanLink.
VirtScan Server – Software component that communicates with all ScanLink Hosts and Virtual Drivers, displaying their status on the viewer console.
VirtScan Host – Software component that must be installed on the computer the scanner is attached to.
VirtScan Driver (client) – Integral software component that allows you to configure the server IP as well as choose a scanner on the network.
Virtual Driver – Causes the ScanLink client to act as a virtual driver that lets the user choose which scanner they would like to use. The system sees ScanLink as a regular TWAIN driver which will show on your driver list in the scanning application you are using.
